#tbt: Is That Really Helping?
This post originally appeared on July 28, 2015.
We all give and receive healing all the time. There are entire careers devoted to it. The capacity that human beings have to help, nurture, soothe, comfort, guide, protect, rescue one another is indescribable. It's one of the things that make us extraordinary creatures.
And then there are the out-of-control healers. They jump in and fix things for people without being asked. They take the heat, throw themselves under the bus, protect those around them from ever feeling discomfort. They love being the one everyone turns to for advice, and they can’t sit still when they perceive someone careening toward what they deem certain disaster.
On the other hand, maybe they are robbing people of their own information under the guise of saving them from “unnecessary” pain. Maybe they are setting their loved ones up for an even bigger fall when the message finally gets through. The universe will keep trying to teach us what we need to know, starting with small signs and making them bigger and bigger until we can't ignore them. Valuable lessons have a way of reappearing until they are learned, don't you think?
Do you suspect that you have an out-of-control healer in your life? Is there a chance you're playing that role for someone else? If so, take a step back and observe what's going on there.
And notice what happens.
