Daring Spirit: Seo Kelleher

Seo is the owner of CO2Fit and Kickasslife.  She started her life "by the book" after college, working for 15 years in the corporate world as a marketing professional.  In 2012, she made a daring shift to start own fitness company, choosing to spend her time doing what she was passionate about instead of doing what she was expected to do for living.  She has recently expanded into online entrepreneurship and coaching with Kicaksslife and is growing her brands and business both off- and online.

Seo is a powerhouse in the fitness studio and on the internet, and we are thrilled to introduce her to you here.

Daring Spirits:  Tell us about a decision that felt really bold.

Seo:  It used to be the boldest decision was walking away from my corporate job and its 6-figure salary to start my own fitness business 4 years ago. But now, I would say the boldest decision is my recent one where I decided to pull back from full-time fitness business and explore other opportunities that could expand my vision.

I have been lucky to grow my fitness business to a point it was successful, but I realized that I was spending 60+ hours on fitness - teaching, managing, and growing the brick and mortar fitness business.  One day I realized that I needed to create some space to explore this bigger vision of mine, where I could reach, inspire, and empower more women OUTSIDE of my own geographical area.  So I recently made a decision to go part-time in fitness business, and invest more of my time and resource to explore other projects that would allow me to coach and empower more women.

It would have been safer and "smarter" to stay with the growing fitness business and focus on making it more successful - but I knew in my heart I needed to make some sacrifice to go after something bigger. It's still unclear how this will pan out, and the uncertainties and unknown are scary, but that's also how you know you are on the right path - it's supposed to feel scary and exciting at the same time.
Daring Spirits:  Describe a time when things went "wrong" and then the Universe delivered.

Seo: My last year in my corporate job was pretty toxic. There are some toxic, unstable people in high-up places in the corporate world!  After a year of tolerating in a very toxic, powerless situation, it was one of my most empowering experiences to stand up for myself and walk away from the job instead of waiting for the company to intervene.

Within weeks of my resignation, I had my fitness company CO2Fit started, and I immediately started to experience opportunities and successes that confirmed that I had made the right decision.  Leads started to come in, and several local gyms wanted to partner with me to create my own fitness programs. And most importantly it FELT right to be doing fitness, following my passion.

It turns out, my resignation raised enough stir at my old company, they ended up firing my boss within a few weeks of my leaving. They asked me to come back, but by then I knew I was meant to live the life of following my heart & passion, so I declined.

Daring Spirits:  Beach or Mountains?  Sweet or spicy?  Window or aisle?

Seo: Mountains!  Beach is too sandy and salty, and sharks!  Always mountains. I was born and raised in South Korea and it has beautiful mountains all around the city of Seoul, it reminds me of the beauty that I grew up with.

Spicy, because I'm Korean!  Spicy and savory.

Window, I guess.  But I'm not that picky - I will take whichever.

Daring Spirits: "...that's also how you know you are on the right path - it's supposed to feel scary and exciting at the same time." If there's a universal description of what it feels like to be a daring spirit, I would say that's it! Seo, thank you for sharing your story with us and for following your passion!
