Daring Spirits: Little Bird

This week, we're thrilled to chat with the Meyers, creative geniuses behind some of Barbara's favorite treats. Their energy is infectious, and they - not just their confections - are the spice of any gathering! 

Little Bird:

My name is Sara. 

My name is Corey. 

And we are Little Bird. 

We make Curious Confections. 

Our specialties are FireBITES & FireBARK - chocolate covered candied jalapeños. They are the perfect balance of sweet, heat & a little touch of saltiness.


Daring Spirits:  Tell us about a decision that felt really bold.

Little Bird: 

Besides starting a business with 2 1/2yr old twins at home?? Besides having absolutely no background in the professional food industry? 

Bold. Um...signing up for the Mama's Expo - our very first retail event. Having to sell to real people face-to-face. 


Daring Spirits:  Describe a time when things went "wrong" and then the Universe delivered.

Little Bird:

Oh my. Things go wrong ALL.THE.TIME. We are constantly learning and readjusting. The biggest hard realization we've had was that our beloved animal crackers covered in gorgeous chocolate — we had to discontinue them. We were losing money hand over fist whenever we made them. On the positive side, by narrowing our product range we've been able to focus our sales exponentially. 


Daring Spirits:  Beach or Mountains?  Sweet or spicy?  Window or aisle?

Little Bird:


We like a combo of sweet AND spicy. 

I think we both like the window, but I (Sara) have a smaller bladder — so I generally get the aisle seat. 


Daring Spirits: It looks to me like one of the lessons here is, sometimes you just have to get started - ready or not. Thanks, Little Bird, for giving us a glimpse of your journey!
